Ghostwriting and Life Writing Coaching with Garry Jenkins

I am a multiple Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling ghost and co-writer. I’ve written books that have sold millions of copies, been transformed into movies and captured the imagination of readers all around the world. If you’re interested in bringing your story into the world, are already at work on your memoir but struggling on the road to publication, or if you are an aspiring ghost-writer yourself, I can help you.

Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories

As one of the UK’s leading ghost-writers, I’ve helped a diverse range of people bring their stories into the world. From soldiers to shepherds, art dealers to astrologers, entertainment figures to business people. Most notably (and satisfyingly), I’ve worked with ordinary people with extraordinary tales to tell, writing books that have sold more than fifteen million copies worldwide. No two projects are the same, of course. No two subjects are. My job is to subtly and sensitively steer the person whose story I am telling through the process, from the birth of the idea to the delivery – and hopefully successful publication – of their book.

“What carries you through are the book’s amiability, candour and lack of sentimentality. Bowen has not been a nice man to know in the past, but he is working on it. This evenness of tone, I suspect, is primarily down to his co-writer, Garry Jenkins, once of this parish and now a highly proficient interpreter of other people’s life stories. He is writer as therapist, and knows that only honesty will do.”

— Macus Berkmann, reviewing The World According to Bob by James Bowen in the Daily Mail

“I feel a particular vote of thanks goes to Garry Jenkins, (the-co-writer) without whom I think these books would not have been written, or at least would not have been so readable. The Bob books may be easy to read but this style of writing is difficult to achieve; Garry has drawn out the story from James and written it in such a way that it is as if James is speaking to us directly and sometimes I can see Bob’s antics as clearly as if I was watching a movie.”

Ruth Gamgee, Amazon Review of A Gift from Bob.

What Do I Offer?

Ghostwrite Your Book

Let me bring your story into the world by ghost-writing your memoir or autobiography.

Ghosts and their subjects need to be on, excuse the pun, the same page. We need to have the same vision for the project and understand what will be involved. We also need to have the same realistic expectations. So…I ask that all clients book an initial hour assessment. This will act as a general get-to-know the project conversation that will help us both to gauge whether we will be able to work together. We can then map out the process and set landmarks and deadlines for delivery.

Availability

My availability will depend on my other writing commitments. I am often booked up for six months to a year in advance. However, I am usually free for initial consultations and conversations. If those go well, the project can be booked into my calendar.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

I offer a monthly payment scheme to spread out the cost of completing a full-length memoir or autobiography.

For an idea of payment rates, please read the excellent Reedsy guide to hiring a ghost-writer.

One Hour Assessment

All my clients and collaborators are required to begin with a one hour long session. This will give me a chance to assess your goals and ambitions and the nature of your project. It will give you an idea of how the process might work but also – I hope – some useful advice on the direction of the project, regardless of whether we work together after that. Often, we can achieve even more than this. If you’ve already got some of your book written I can read a short extract or synopsis to get an idea of your progress so far. I can then give you advice not just on the book itself but the writing style, maybe even a title.

I will write a brief 500 word minimum summary of our conversation and my thoughts on the right direction for you after we have spoken. This can be the beginning of our working relationship – but sometimes it’s all a client needs to set them on the right path.

Availability and COSt

Send me a note via the contact page for availability. A one hour session costs £65, payable in advance.

I can help your life story find its place in the world.

To discuss or develop your idea, or to talk about collaborating or consulting on your project get in touch on my contact page. You can also send me a note there about advice on becoming a ghostwriter.
